Shaken not stirred.....

From Allene,

1958 –
My friend Martha, her daughter Jan, myself and Kathy had taken our vacation in California. We were visiting and staying with Martha’s sister Marjel, who lived a very high life in Beverly Hills. We had driven all the way from Idaho in Martha's 1957 Mercury to have an exciting time in Tinsel Town.

Jan was just one and Kathy was into her twos.

Marjel was an agent with the Morris Agency and well connected with people we had only read about, seen on TV or in movies.  Martha and I were young naive women from Boise, Idaho and very far out of our element in the Hills of Beverly.  It was wonderful and exciting.

One morning the doorbell rang and I opened the door to a very handsome well dressed man wanting to visit with Marjel.  I introduced myself and he said this name was John Lodi.  Even in Idaho I knew this was an Italian name and this man was very much Italian.

His suit was very much like one I had seen Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. wearing recently on a TV show.  This John was pretty will decked out and had a very serious twinkle in his eye.

Being the well mannered girl that I was, I asked if he would like coffee.

“Yes" he said, "with one quarter of a level teaspoon of sugar!”

Huh?  One quarter, of a level teaspoon?  This man was not a big talker but he certainly knew how he preferred his coffee.

I very carefully measured his sugar into his coffee, served it to him and went to find Marjel.
